Happy New Year - Are your Ready?

I am so excited about the new year.  It is like opening one last Christmas present.  You just don't know what you will get. We can plan for the new year, budget for it, set goals and for some New Year's resolutions.  But, there is no way to know what will be unwrapped this new year.  Blessings, successes, joys, troubles, trials...you name it.  How prepared are we?  What will you do if you lose your job?  How will you handle the death of a loved one?  What will you say when your spouse asks for a divorce?  Who will you turn to with job stress?  What will you do when you child fails a class? or you receive a bad report from the doctor?

One way to be better prepared is to take an inventory of resources.  We don't do this very well.  Most live day to day in a rush reacting to whatever gets thrown our way.  Deliberate responses are harder to do.  So, I decided to start the new year off by highlighting various different resources that will help on your 2014 journey.  The first one is Focus on the Family. New Year's eve I caught a broadcast on 90.9 KLTY with guest speakers Dr. Sylvia Hart Frejd and Dr. Archibald Hart.  it addressed the negative impacts of excessive use of technology from a neurological framework and then focused on the lingering implications for families both short and long term. www.focusonthefamily.com  The Digital Invasion

Focus on the Family has countless resources that are easy to access.  Many clients have also mentioned over the years how moved, touched and changed they have been by listening to the various boradcasts that are offered on 90.9 KLTY and Focus on the Family.

I encourage you to add these to your repretoire and use them routinely for encouragement and support.  However, nothing can ever take the place of our daily bread from God's word.  Regular and consistent Bible study change hearts and lives. Nothing can substitute.  God's word directs us by showing us the way.  It is alive and active, convicting, comforting and changing us.  Read and meditate on Psalm 119:102-105, Proverbs 6:23, Hebrews 4:12

"They word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105

"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrows, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

How well you handle 2014 will in some ways depend on the resources you have at your disposal.  (Both Internal and External)  Spend some time today taking inventory and make a committment to read, study, memorize, and use God's word.
